Protect Yourself with Tail Insurance Coverage

We can all use a bit of extra insurance. The average insurance policy is very specific about coverage dates, and only claims made during the period of time specified will be processed and paid. However, there is an option to extend coverage, and that comes in the form of tail insurance.

Extended Coverage

Tail coverage can be added to your insurance policy and essentially extends the period in which claims might be filed. For example, if your policy ends in July and a claim is filed at the beginning of August, tail coverage will allow that claim to be processed even though it is outside of the originally specified time period. This kind of coverage essentially gives you additional time to report claims without facing any penalties or without the claim being denied outright.

Length of Extension

Tail coverage can be customized to suit your personal needs. The coverage itself will always be set for a specific time of extension, such as 30, 60, or 90 days. Other policies may include tail insurance for a year or more. Keep in mind that the date the claim occurred must have taken place during your original insurance period–tail coverage merely extends the duration of time in which a covered claim might be filed and processed.

Tail insurance coverage is a great option for many insurance policies and can afford extra wiggle room that makes things a whole lot easier.
